Q.
How do I access a SwissVBS course?
A.
Once you have your login information, go to www.swissvbs.com to sign in. After login, you will find your course listed in the “Courses” section.
Q.
Does viewing a SwissVBS course require any specific hardware or software?
A.
You will need a PC or a Macintosh with at least an Intel Core Duo 1.33 GHz processor. A minimum of 1GB RAM is required along with a high-speed Internet connection (cable or DSL). You will also need speakers or headphones because our courses include audio. Furthermore, you will need either Internet Explorer 7 or Firefox 3 as well as Adobe Flash and Adobe Reader. Unless you already have this software, you should download it from the manufacturers’ website.
Q.
My computer does not meet the minimum system requirements. Can I still view the courses?
A.
You will still be able to see our courses if you possess fairly modern hardware. However, you may experience that some of the courses do not run smoothly.
Q.
When I click on launching the course, the course does not appear. What should I do?
A.
Disable the pop-up blocker in Internet Explorer and any toolbar you may have installed (e.g. Google toolbar, Yahoo toolbar). Use your system’s help guide if you are not sure how to do this.
Q.
The course does not seem to be loading correctly. What should I do?
A.
First, check your connection with the Internet. Make sure that your high-speed Internet connection is working properly. If you have a sound connection with the Internet but are still having problems launching the course, delete all temporary Internet files including offline content. Use your system’s help guide if you are not sure how to do this. Then, try re-launching the course. You may also want to reinstall your browser’s Adobe Flash plug-in. If you continue to experience problems with the course content, please try the following:
Internet Explorer 7:
- Select “Internet Options” from the “Tools” menu.
- Choose the “General” tab.
- Under “Browsing history”, click “Delete”.
- Go to "Temporary Internet Files" and click “Delete files”.
- Click “Close”, and then click “OK” to exit.
Firefox 3 for Windows:
- Select “Clear Private Data” from the “Tools” menu and check “Cache”.
- Click “Clear Private Data Now”.
Firefox 3 for Mac OS X:
- Select “Clear Private Data” from the “Tools” menu and check “Cache”.
- Click “Clear Private Data Now”.
Please contact SwissVBS’ Help Desk if your course still does not load correctly.
Q.
Course screens are loading extremely slowly. What should I do?
A.
The time it takes for an individual course page to load directly relates to the speed of your Internet connection. SwissVBS recommends high-speed Internet access in order to ensure optimum loading times.
Q.
I am not hearing any audio. What should I do?
A.
First, check if your speakers or headphones are plugged into your computer. Speakers should also be plugged into an electrical outlet and turned on. Second, ensure that your system’s audio is turned on and that the volume is at a suitable level. Use your system’s help guide if you are not sure how to do this. If you are still unable to get your course to load, please contact our Help Desk.
Q.
The animations in the course always lag behind the audio. Is this a problem?
A.
Yes. Course animations should always be in sync with the audio. However, you may experience dragging in the animations on older systems with slower processor speed and lower amounts of RAM. This can only be fixed with a faster processor and increased RAM.
Q.
Can I view a course while I am taking an assessment?
A.
No. If you launch a course while taking an assessment, the course will close the assessment. You will not be able to take the assessment again.
Q.
What is the role of the eMentor?
A.
The role of the eMentor is to help you systematically progress through the course and ensure that the key concepts are understood and discussed in your group. The Mentoring Program is an additional service that can be purchased with a corporate license.
Q.
What happens to my test score?
A.
Your test score is used to help the professors and eMentors to assess the level of learning gained from the online courses. With this knowledge they will be able to better prepare the in-class sessions.
Q.
What do I receive after I have completed a course?
A.
At an additional cost, you may request an official transcript from SwissVBS. This transcript is delivered either in a secure electronic format or as a traditional hardcopy.
